We’re pretty stoked! This is a damn exciting panel. Killer motion picture and TV literary managers from some of the best management companies in town. And as we will see, a broad palette of tastes.

Now the eagle-eyed amongst you may notice something’s missing from this list. Yep, it’s true.

No women.

I mean, we tried. We really did. But the sad reality is: the ratio of male to female managers is around 9 to 1. We reached out to over a dozen hard-charging female managers, including several who we have worked with in the past, but alas, no one came aboard. Hopefully we’ll add a few over the coming weeks, but as of press time, this is the list.

And for real, this is a great list.

The Get Repped Now deadline is July 17, so you’ve still got plenty of time to shine up those pilots and feature specs and get ’em in. And if you enter now, you should have plenty of time to resubmit a polish before the deadline – turnaround time is holding at 10 days for the moment. However, this will start to lengthen next week as our advertising kicks in, so get in early if you want to have enough time to maximize your chances.

What Are the Managers Looking For?

When the managers come aboard, we always ask them that question. And inevitably we get the same sort of responses:

  • Horror
  • Action/Adventure
  • Thrillers/Supernatural Thrillers
  • Romantic Comedies
  • Excellent voices/great writing of any genre
  • Fast-paced 1-hr TV drama
  • Commercial genre specs
  • True Story/IP
  • Sci-fi (especially contained/grounded sci-fi)

Now here’s where things get interesting.

Several of the managers specified comedies, and one even mentioned westerns! We haven’t heard of anyone looking for westerns in years. Another mentioned procedural pilots. Yet another is looking for “anything weird, quirky.” And another mentioned romance/romantic drama.

Wait – drama? Of any kind? Mind = blown. As we explain in the video, these genres are all well-respected and even beloved — but in general, managers and producers haven’t been too keen to read them of late because they are considered tough sells. As one manager told me when I pitched him one of our Get Repped Now considers, a terrific romantic drama:

“Please don’t ask me to read it. The last thing I need is to spend the next ten years of my life trying to sell some period passion project, and when I finally do get it set up, I’m making pennies on the dollar. Send me the next ‘Fast’ movie, please.”

Everybody loves a great western, but as a spec, they can be problematic – again, generally speaking, the industry doesn’t feel they resonate with youth culture in 2026, and mostly they’re being done as TV shows (by known creators with the juice to get them done).

Comedies have struggled at the box office in recent years; Spinal Tap II, Fackham Hall and the Naked Gun reboot all underperformed. Although Naked Gun and Fackham Hall will likely be profitable eventually, none of these movies were a big hit. For years now, no one has really been super excited to read comedies. But – the door is open a crack.

What’s the takeaway? Simple: the managers are of course looking for commercial scripts that have the best possible chance of selling. Duh. However, there is opportunity for a really voicy and distinctive project to get attention – if the talent explodes off the page.

Now get back to work, folks, and we’ll hopefully see you in the Get Repped Now consider circle.
