In addition to over two decades as a professional screenwriter, Jim has been a script reader for several production companies and is the Head Judge and Contest Coordinator for the annual CS Open Writing Tournament at the Los Angeles Screenwriting Expo as well as Writers on the Storm screenwriting competition. He's evaluated thousands of scripts. As industry expert for both leading screenwriting magazines ("Creative Screenwriting" and "Script") Jim interviews a panel of top literary agents, managers and producers about industry trends and has his finger on the pulse of the industry.
Jim hails from the UCLA Professional Program in Screenwriting, and applies the UCLA technique to his analysis along with a healthy helping of myth, Save the Cat! and gentle guidance. Above all, he tries to be empowering in his notes, and will never make anyone feel foolish or ashamed or belittled. Screenwriting is a craft. It can be learned. All it takes is a great attitude and a willingness to bring your "A" game and really be willing to listen and learn.
